Hitting a wall

Hey oh, Dynasty Dad here. Like your weekly trip to Costco, where you get some hot-out-the-oven dadding samples in one place, and you don’t have to go out to eat after.

My son once said, “Dad, you can get your groceries and buy a car at Costco”

This week’s foraged berry: Hitting A Wall

Hitting A Wall

Parenting is like climbing a rock wall.

It requires a partner, the belayer (at least to do it safely).

It’s extremely fatiguing (it can hurt like hell).

But when you make progress, you lock it in (climbing uses anchors aka belays)

And the hope is that it was worth it once you get to the top.

I mean, I’ve never met a dad who has been through it and doesn’t say it was worth it.

They could be lying, but I won’t know til I get to the top.

“on belay!” (the command in climbing, letting your partner know you are ready to climb)

This Week's Interesting Thing:

All that matters is the 3 As.

Attitude, Aptitude and Action.

I’m reading a how-to guide on buying a small business called ' Buy Then Build’ by Walker Deibel.

And I found it super applicable to parenting and life.

According to Walker the 3As are the most important things to success in business.

Attitude:

There are two mindsets fixed or growth. People are either knowers or learners.

Fixed mindset is one that believes “it is what it is”, that resources are limited and nothing you can do could change the outcome.

The growth mindset (preferred attitude in parenting, business or life) believes that effort matters. That anything can be learned and achieved.

Choose growth mindset.

Aptitude:

Uncover and focus on your strengths. The strengths you bring to parenting, to work, to business and to life. Knowing these and honing them are key to success.

Action:

Take action. Learn by doing. And find the activities that you get lost in where time passes without awareness.

These are the things you love doing and are most fit for. Find a way to focus on these actions. They will lead to a path of success.
